Why it matters

Support stroke patients

Stroke happens when blood flow to part of the brain is blocked or when a blood vessel in the brain bursts. It is a major cause of death and disability worldwide. In the United States, more than 795,000 people have a stroke each year, including about 610,000 first or new strokes. In India, approximately 1.25 to 1.8 million people experience a stroke each year accounting for about 10% of the global burden and over 9.4 million people are currently living with its effects. Worldwide, more than 12 million people experience a new stroke each year, and more than 100 million people are living with the effects of stroke.
